This is the fusion engine that is used within the hard sci-fi short stories I've been working on, including "Welcome to the Brethren." This patented design is a fusion engine that uses the heat produced by the reaction to power the lasers used to produce the fusion reaction, theoretically creating a self-sustaining engine. 

This engine, or one like it, might one day power and provide thrust for the ships we are imagining in our writings.
